ETI now provides a high quality product database in accordance with the new Eplan Data Standard (EDS)

When control cabinets are being designed in 3D, wires automatically calculated and prepared, mounting panels processed by a robot, doors of an enclosure drilled by a machine, standardised component data is required.

ETI has started a new integration into the Eplan ePulse cloud system, with the new ETI Eplan Data Standard-EDS quality data. The EDS defines the type of component data required to automate and simplify processes in (pre)planning, engineering, manufacturing and maintenance.

For any technician or engineer (basically all of us), the goal is to do their work more meticulously, faster, and more efficiently. For example, drawing via function-oriented methods and by automating repetitive tasks with macros. Working with a digital twin (also known as virtual prototyping) when designing a control panel can save a lot of time and eliminate repetitive work.

Building a control panel usually takes a lot of time, from ordering the components, determining drill holes, positioning components, cutting and connecting of elements - all this requires precision and craftsmanship. This can now be done smarter by using a digital twin.

First products' data already available

Several hundred updated ETI components’ data, with a focus on manufacturing integration, are already available in the new Eplan Data Standard. This includes a schematic macro, a 2D and 3D macro, connection point patterns, drill holes and part data in 11 different languages.

3D cabinet layout

Advantages:

- Cabinet layout with virtual prototyping saves a lot of time-consuming, manual work.

- Even before the cabinet is ordered, we know whether all components fit in it, for instance do the switch boxes fit in the room where they are placed.

- You can also submit the virtual prototype to the customer for approval.

- With the appropriate software, the system can automatically determine the routing of the wiring.

- A change of position of a part can be written back to the schematic and a new wiring list is generated.

- Drilling templates are also automatically generated.

The system can automatically control a CNC machine, like the Rittal Perforex machine, or specialised companies who can assist.
